R' Ovadya Yosef: Cancel Bein Hazmanim

בתשעה באב יוצאים תלמידי הישיבות החרדיות לחופשה בת שלושה שבועות, עד ראש חודש אלול. הרב יוסף קרא לכל בני הישיבות שלא לצאת לחופשה ולהמשיך ללמוד תורה גם בימי "בין הזמנים".
לדבריו, "הרי כולנו בצרה. מה זה חופש? צריך ללמוד תורה."
On Tisha B'Av thousands of Charedi yeshiva boys go on vacation for 3 weeks until Rosh Chodesh Elul. R' Ovadya Yosef called on all the yeshiva boys not to go on vacation and to continue learning during Bein Hazmanim. According to him, we are all in danger, what is a vacation? We need to learn torah

Good plan.
They did that during after the yom kippur war and that winter zman was the worst most zman on record. My mashgiach when I was yeshiva told us that. And he was not the type to encourage any break from learning. But he said that without bain hazmanim bochrim coudnt hack the winter zman and a lot of bochrim just stopped learning. Even those who hitherto never was mevatel torah.
I heard that bit about the YK war also. Perhaps this would be different as the next zman is ellul, not the long winter.
Or, perhaps they will add a few days of seder to the end of Kayitza and a few days to the begininng of ellul..
