Keeping things in perspective

Yesterday was a very tough day of fighting with 9 soldiers killed and 22 wounded. My heart goes out to all of them and their families. However, the reaction in the press has been hysterical. We are not losing the war and unfortunately soldiers die in war. Hezbollah is now asking for a ceasefire, a clear sign that they feel that they are losing. People talk about how Israel defeated 3 armies in 6 days in 1967 what they forget to mention is that 800 soldiers were killed in 6 days. Guerilla warfare against an enemy that is well trained and prepared is very tough.

There is another issue that needs to be raised. The army is endangering (and causing the deaths of our soldiers) to protect the lives of "innocent" Lebanese. There was no reason to send in troops house to house yesterday, that is exactly what Hezbollah wanted. Instead they should have demolished the buildings with the terrorists in them. What the governemnt and army is doing, putting Jewish soldiers lives in danger is immoral and against the Torah.

A) Do any of the higher ups in the Irraeli military - on a decision making level - care that it was against the Torah?

B) As much as they care about immorality, you have to face the facts, that being that Israel is relying on foreign aid - mostly from the US - they are not bound by morals, but rather that of the ideas of those foreign countries.

Couple that with the idea of the secularists all over that if we appease enough non-jews, all our suffering will end and there will be no more anti-semitism, and you see why they are willing to "give in"

At this point I don't think that B is really relevant. The Europeans and UN are against us already, the US would understand and not say a word if they had flattened the town.

What is the mood on the street. Do Israelis believe the govt is committed to destroying Hezbolla?
If they just cripple them somewhat, I'm afraid Hezbollah will be seen as the hero that stood up to israel and win the psychological war with their constituents.

The people want the government to destroy Hezbollah. There definately is doubt about whther the government will do it.
