אנשים מתקשים לעכל את המציאות החדשה. כשממשלת ישראל מרימה יד לעקור יישובים יהודיים מארץ ישראל היא מאבדת במו ידיה את כל הטעם לקיום המדינה. אי אפשר להתעלם מכך. המדינה היא מכשיר קדושה ולא קדושה. מכשיר מצווה ולא מצווה. אפילו הרב סולובייצ'יק כתב שהוא לא ייתן את ידו להשתעבדות בלתי מסויגת למדינה. זו עבודה זרה. כשהמדינה נוהגת כמדינת כל יושביה, ולא כמדינת היהודים, היחס שלי אליה משתנה. אני מכבד אותה ככל שלטון אחר אבל היא כבר לא 'ראשית צמיחת גאולתנו'. המשמעות המעשית היא שאולי לא נוכל להמשיך בתפילות ובברכות של יום העצמאות
Is this the end of religious zionism? How many people are not going to celebrate יום העצמאות this year?

I look at the problem this way: Torah Jews can only support the State of Israel when the state is furthering the cause of the Jewish People. For instance, we cannot support the hiloni educatonal system or the hiloni justicial system, both of which are desecrations of G-d's name. The army, on the other hand, is a device to further the mitvah of settling the land and protecting the Jewish People. When and if, G-d forbid, the army becomes a tool to further the ends of our enemies than we certainly cannot support it or take part in it. If this happens there will be very little common ground left in Israel for the religious and non-religious. The mitzvah of settling the land will never die, therefore religious Zionism will not die. What will be seriously wounded will be the connection of any Torah Jew to the present government and any future government that carries out similar policies.
Religious Zionism attributed holiness to the state itself. They believed that the founding of the state was the beginning of the גאולה process. This belief is coming into question now that the state is preparing to destroy ישובים and make certain parts of the land of Israel judenrein.
