An interesting coalition possibility ...

If Netanyahu is deposed or resigned. If that happens, Labor could make a government with the following parties:
Labor - 20
Yisrael Beitenu - 12
Shas - 13
Yahadut Hatorah - 6
Likud - 11

62 seats

This would allow the Likud and Labor to effectively kill Kadima. Kadima would not survive as an opposition party.

Don't be so sure, it will be very tempting for Amir Peretz to become Prime Minister. In fact he could do it without the Likud:
Labor - 20
Meretz - 4
Yisrael Beitenu - 12
Shas - 13
Yahadut Hatorah - 6
Pensioners - 7

62 seats

Interesting, I wonder if Peretz would try to form a coalition.

I may not agree with Peretz's politics, but I trust him a whole lot more than I trust Olmert now.

Power makes strange bedfellows

Kadima is a party of opportunists who were looking for power. I have no respect for any of them. I still remember the letter I got from Mofaz about how you don't abandon your house.

In addition, they are dangerous, they could try to unilaterally pullback.

Demographically in less than 10 years the total number of Arabs on the West bank and Gaza will outnumber those Jews in the whole of Israel. This is demographically untenable.

Sooner or later something has to be done. Otherwise you potentially have a situation where a majoirty of a country could vote to strip Israel of its Jewish Identity.

As far as gaza went. There were 18,000 soldiers protecting 4000 settlers. the land taken by the settlers was the best. They had 100 times the mount of land per capita as the arabs in gaza. This just made a bad situation worse as far as arab resentment went.

Of course these are hard cold facts that people dont want to think about. But it necessary to think about the long term not just the short term.

Appeasement and runing is never an answer, it only convinces the other side that you have lost the will to fight and gives them more incentive to fight. Do you really believe that the Palestinians will ever be satisfied without 100% of the land?

What else would you suggest? We cant just stay there. We can withdraw behind a big fence and be a lot more safe that is currently the situation. Additionaly its true that the Palestinians may not get their act together for generations but by withdrawing we can ignore them (more or less) and get on with a 'relatively' more peaceful life.

Transfer the Arabs. Beregishut VeNechishut!

"Transfer the Arabs. Beregishut VeNechishut!"

The fact that you suggest that worries me. Its not realistic and its the sort of thing that provokes extreme responses. Yes yes there would be terrorism without it, of course but when people believe that they have nothing to lose there is no limit to what they are prepared to do.

Seriosly what else can be done?
Or can we only talk about la la land?
