I don't need prizes to give צדקה

Hamodia published a great letter this week from someone who is annoyed that he is being inundated with all kinds of useless free stuff from צדקה organizations. As he says "I don't need prizes to give צדקה".

I wholeheartedly agree and would extend this to all of the historic events as well. I don't need prizes and I don't need historic events to give צדקה. Give people a little credit that they give צדקה for the right reasons.

Here is the full text of the letter.

I think that tsedaka organizations discovered that they collect more money when they sent out all this junk. So if an tzedaka organization makes more money like that - than it is a MITZVA to sent out prizes.

I agree with the person who wrote the original article. There's alot of wasteful junk that goes around in the name of these things and it's unfortunate.

It also probably wouldn't be necessary if there weren't so many scam tzeddakah operations that operate on the small scale.

At the same time it helps some people get on the Tzeddakah train they wouldn't otherwise get on. So it gets someone's attention.
