An glaring exception in the chareidi world. It is done out of respect to Rav Kahaneman who insisted that the flag be flown. I have heard that nowadays they have to post guards by the flag to ensure that it isn't forcibly removed.
RK also didn't say tachanun on Yom Haatzmaut. Is that the minhag of the Ponovezh today?
