The bleak facts about Charedi participation in the workforce in Israel

The government recently came out with a report outlining Charedi participation in the economy, The report is pretty bleak. Here are some of the more interesting numbers:

% of men participating in the workforce
37%
80%
% of women participating in the workforce
49%
70%
% working in the public sector
45%
20%
% that know English well
26.4%

% served in the army (20-29)
6.8%
85.2%
average income

The numbers speak for themselves but a few are very interesting/surprising.
  1. Almost half of the Charedim who work, work for the government in some form (mostly in education).
  2. The average Charedi income is half of the general population average and that needs to support a much larger family and more then half of Charedim are considered poor
  3. The army numbers are unbelievable 85% vs 6.8% says it all
